Vortex Grit Chamber efficiently removes grit from the treatment plant influent stream. A Vortex Grit Chamber usually follows screening equipment. The screening filtered influent enters tangentially and flows around the upper chamber. Adjustable rotating paddles augment the spiraling flow to create a mechanically induced vortex which settles the grit, transports it to the center opening of the fixed floor plate for collection in the lower chamber, and lifts and returns the lighter organic particles to the main flow. The grit solids are removed from the lower chamber by an air lift or recessed impeller pump for further washing and dewatering.

Water flows along the tangent line direction into the pool to create a whirl firstly, and then reach certain speed and status of water flow by the process of wheel. Sand together with organic appendix is separated from water flow and sunk into the center sank tank by its own weight and whirl force. The separated organic substance is lifted by axial flow upwards. The sand accumulated in the sand bank is lifted by airlifting pump or sand pump, then enters into sand-water separator and the sand is separated completely. The sand is to be discharged and sewage waterflow back to grate well.
